Michael Jacksons Dance Moves

Michael Jacksons dance moves and steps were very innovative, new,
and exciting. This was his signature. He had no
boundaries when he felt the beat of the music as to where and how his body would move.
Michael had several dance steps and moves that became his signature. The "moonwalk", the "gravity defying" move, the leg pop
in front, the "crotch grab", the hat pose with his body
and legs bent, his "signature spin", and his robot that moved in a square, to name a few. Let's start off with the biggest influence on Michael Jacksons dance moves, the legendary James Brown.

According to Michael...
"The Dance"
"Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world
we live in is the dance of the creator. Dancers come and go in
the twinkling of an eye, but the dance lives on. On many occasion
when I am dancing, I have felt touched by something sacred. In those moments, I felt my spirit soar and become one
with everything that exits.

I become the stars and the moon. I become the lover and the beloved.
I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave
I become the singer and the song. I become the knower and the known.
I keep on dancing...then it is the eternal dance of creation.
The creator and the creation merge into one wholeness of joy.
I keep on dancing...and dancing...and dancing. Until there is
only THE DANCE."

Article on Michael's Dance

Let's take a look through the years and see how Michael's dance moves came to be and evolve into what we know and love today.

In the 1960s, Michael started out with his brothers, the Jackson 5. He had so much energy and could not stop dancing that they put him in front.
They were perfectly synchronized but Michael put his own flare on it. He showed his dance talent early on in his Motown audition with his brothers, as The Jackson 5.

It wasn't until the 1983 Motown 25th anniversary celebration that Michael let everyone see his legendary "Moonwalk"
